Imagine the thrill of seeing a Royal Bengal Tiger in the wild! These large cats are the most impressive creature of the jungle. They literally strut as they walk through the jungle. They know they are the master of their domain.
Bardia National Park is probably the best place in all of Nepal to see the Royal Bengal Tiger. This national park, located in the far west of Nepal, has the highest number of tiger sightings than anywhere else in Nepal. While there is no guarantee that you will see a tiger, the chances are very good you will see one here.
Bardia National Park is the largest national park in the Terai region. It has 968 square kilometers of land on the eastern shores of the beautiful Karnali River. The park, because of its location, doesn’t get the number of visitors that Chitwan National Park does. The lower numbers helps to contribute to the higher number of sightings of tigers and wild animals every year.
There are other endangered animals as well. There is the One-Horned Indian Rhinoceros, the gharial crocodile and the Ganges River Dolphin. Inside the park are all kinds of animals, five varieties of deer plus much more to see and do. There are hundreds of varieties of birds and butterflies to see, all in their natural setting.
Bardia has fewer resorts than Chitwan, but they offer great amenities. Come and visit the elephant and crocodile breeding grounds. Take in a Tharu cultural show. Relax reading a book in a gazebo. It is all here at Bardia.
Swiss Nepal Family Trekking & Expedition is quite pleased to be able to offer this package tour of Bardia National Park. This tour offers three nights, four days of fun and jungle adventure into one of Nepal’s least known, but truly exciting Bardia National Park.
DAY 1 – Fly to Nepalgunj, transfer by private vehicle to Bardia National Park
DAY 2 – Jungle safari to look for tigers and other animals
DAY 3 – Jeep safari
DAY 4 – Return to Kathmandu
DAY 1 – Fly to Bardia: Our journey begins with an hour long flight to Nepalgunj, the largest city in the western part of Nepal. We will be picked up by our representative of Swiss Nepal Family Trekking & Expedition and taken to Bardia National Park. It is a three hour drive through beautiful jungle forests. Upon arrival, enjoy a complimentary drink. Visit the elephant breeding grounds to see baby elephants. In the evening, relax after dinner.
DAY 2 – Jungle Safari: Today we enter the jungle with your expert guide to look for tigers and other wild animals. There are monkeys chattering in the trees. There are five varieties of deer that come down to the rivers and streams to drink. To see the wildlife, we go with our guide to a camouflaged placed overlooking a watering hole where rhinos, tigers and deer come to drink. It sometimes takes a few hours to see a tiger as they don’t operate on a schedule (when you’re king of the Nepali jungle, you can come and go as you please!). However, the wait will reward you with scenes of wild elephants, rhinos, monkeys and deer. There is never a shortage of wildlife to see in Bardia. In the evening, enjoy a Tharu cultural show.
DAY 3 – Jeep Safari: We will be traveling by jeep deep into the interior of Bardia National Park. These jeeps have open tops and can give you great visibility for pictures. You are accompanied by your jungle guide as well as a good driver. There is much to see and do, and we will stop at a number of overlooks to watch silently for wild animals. Later, we can tour a Tharu village as well as to see the Tharu Museum and crocodile breeding grounds.
DAY 4 – Return to Kathmandu: After breakfast, we will take the beautiful three hour drive to Nepalgunj to catch our flight back to Kathmandu. The mountains of the Himalayas can be seen to the north as you return to the capital city. Before you leave, be sure to talk to your representative at Swiss Nepal Family Trekking & Expedition about other options for travel in Nepal, Tibet, Bhutan, Sikkim, India and Bangladesh. There is so much to do and see while in this part of the world, and Swiss Nepal Family Trekking & Expedition are experts in travel, trekking and adventure. Be sure to ask.
