When you do a day hike to the top of Champadevi, you leave the valley behind as you trek to one of the finest scenic overlooks in the Kathmandu Valley. The journey begins as you drive southeast toward the village of Pharping. This is a strong centre for Buddhism in the Kathmandu Valley. Once here, the trail up to the top is a gradual one which passes through incredibly fragrant pine forests that opens up to vistas of the great Himalaya Mountains to the north.
The view from on top of Champadevi is as fine, if not better than Nagarkot. But unlike Nagarkot, you won't find any Five-Star Hotels and paved roads. Instead, it is just the sound of the wind in the trees with the birds singing as you watch hawks and eagles fly overhead on the thermals. What better way to see the mighty Himalayas than from your own private mountaintop?
There is a small holy place on top of Champadevi. From here you are standing at the highest place that overlooks the valley below as well as the Holy Bagmati River as it weaves its way out of the valley on its way to join the waters of the Ganges.
Once completed, it is a return back to your Three Star Hotel, or if you desire a side trip to Dakshinkali Temple which is nearby Pharping.
