Custom Formalities

Upon your arrival at the entry point, all your baggage must be verified and cleared through customs. Personal belongings are permitted free entry. For the passengers arriving at TIA (Tribhuvan International Airport) without any dutiable goods are allowed to proceed through the Green Channel for quick clearance without having their baggage checked. However, passengers bringing dutiable goods with them have to pass through the Red Channel for detailed customs clearance.

Import
In addition to your used personal belongings, visitors are permitted to carry the following goods free of duty:

  • Cigarette (200) or cigars (50)
  • Film (15 rolls)
  • Distilled Liquor (one bottle 1.5 ltr.)

Visitors can also bring in the following items free of duty on a condition that you take them out with you when you leave:

  • Binocular
  • Movie or video camera
  • Still Camera
  • Laptop Computer
  • Portable Music System

Export
No one can export antiques without having special certification from the Department of Archeology, which is situated in National Archive Building, Ram Shah Path, Kathmandu. It is considered illegal to export objects over 100 years old such as sacred images, manuscripts, paintings that are valuable for cultural and religious reasons.
