How would you like to see a tiger or rhino in the heart of the jungle while riding on the back of an elephant? Or to visit an elephant breeding center to see baby elephants? How about a canoe ride in a dug out canoe to look for crocodiles and all kinds of exotic birds?
This can be done in Chitwan National Park. One of the most popular of the national parks in Nepal, it has been a favorite with visitors to this country since its inception in 1973. Once a royal hunting grounds, it now heralds one of the greatest success stories for the comeback of rare, endangered species. The Royal Bengal Tiger, the One-Horned Indian Rhinoceros and the Gharial Crocodile are all gaining in numbers due to successful conservation efforts in Chitwan National Park.
No one lives in the park except for the animals. However, you can stay in resorts located in the buffer zones on the fringe of the park. It is only a 35 minute flight from Kathmandu to the nearest airport and then a very short drive to your resort.
The resorts are modern and very pleasant. They are close to the activities while providing a wonderful environment to enjoy the evenings.
