Nepal is the birthplace of Siddhartha Gautama, the prince who forsook all the pleasures of this world to pursue enlightenment to become The Buddha. From his enlightenment has come one of the most liberating of all philosophies in the world. His pursuit of peace and good living has become the cornerstone of much of the world's society.
Swiss Nepal Family Trekking & Expedition has put together an amazing tour that will explore the birthplace the Lord Buddha in a way no other company can offer you. Not only do we go to Lumbini, but we also will spend a day visiting the many archeological sites that exist around Lumbini that relate to the development of Buddhism.
The Lumbini area is the launch site for much of Buddhism. Before Siddhartha, there were other Buddhas who came from this area. They received enlightenment and there is no doubt that their early writings did influence the development of Siddhartha on his path toward ultimate enlightenment. Those early writing have mostly been lost, but those sites have now been uncovered.
We will also spend two nights at Meghauli in Chitwan National Park in order to do some meditation along with an opportunity to explore the jungle on the back of an elephant. This is how Buddha's mother Mahadevi traveled on that fateful night when she gave birth in the jungles around Lumbini. Here you will appreciate the difficulties she experienced giving birth in the jungle so far away from family.
In addition, there are other places of great importance to Buddhism in Nepal which we will visit. This tour places a strong emphasis on the spiritual experience. There will be opportunities to meditate and truly reflect upon what the enlightened one shared with us nearly 2500 years ago.
Come and experience this once-in-a-lifetime spiritual journey back to Lumbini.
