Legendary and Isolated, it is now open for you!
Located east of Nepal and Sikkim is a tiny little mountain kingdom called Bhutan. It is remote Buddhist kingdom, called the land of the Thunder Dragon. Closed off to the outside world for years, its king now allows a limited number of people to visit his kingdom in order to maintain its unique culture that has developed in the shadow of the Himalayas. Swiss Nepal Family Trekking & Expedition is pleased to be one of the leading companies to offer excursions into this wonderfully beautiful as well as mystic land.
Bhutan is also called "the hidden kingdom". There are snowcapped peaks, incredible monasteries, including the famed "Tiger Eye", lush green mountain valleys along with a rich variety of flora and fauna. The capital city of Thimbu is a modern city, but once you leave the capital, the land hasn't changed much in a thousand years.
The country has three major ethnic groups: Ngalongs, Lhotshampas and Sharchops who have a deep and rich culture. Because of its long-time isolation, it is considered one of the most exotic destinations in the world today. The country is still relatively unexplored, which only adds to its mystique. Its limited number of yearly visitors assures that the environmental quality will not be destroyed as the culture endures.
The official state religion is Mahayana Buddhism, and is the only country in the world where this is designated as such. The country requires its citizens to wear its national costume and Western influence has very little impact here.
The best time to visit Bhutan is from late September to late November. During this time, the skies are incredibly clear as the incredibly white snowcapped peaks pierce the cobalt blue skies. You can also visit from March to May before the summer monsoon seasons arrive.
