Some of the finest fishing in Nepal is right in Bardia National Park. And have we a trip for you if you like fishing! Rafting on a jungle river during the day, and then in the evening cooking your fresh fish over an open fire before retiring to your tent for the night.
The Babai River in Bardia National Park in Western Nepal offers the full jungle experience that you can't find anywhere else in Nepal. The trip begins with your flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj and then a three hour ride into the jungle to your resort.
This trip includes four days of rafting lazily down the river while fishing for a large variety of fish that are just jumping out of the water. But there will also be time to go into the jungle to look for tigers, take an elephant safari, enjoy the native culture and more.
Bardia National Park is not as visited as its better known counterpart at Chitwan National Park because it is located in the far west part of the country. Because of its remoteness, there are greater opportunities for animal sightings, as well as to enjoy a real jungle experience.
There are tigers, rhinos, monkeys, river dolphins and much more that inhabit the jungle. On the Babai River, you won't see crocodiles (they can't come upstream from the dam on the East-West Highway) but you will see elephants, rhinos, and lots of deer coming to drink at the water's edge. You will be in a beautiful canyon carved by the wonderful blue waters of the river. You will probably not see any other people except for those in your party for those days on the river.
You will have an experienced guide with you who knows where to find the animals and how to walk in the jungle. Your guide and porters will make sure you have a safe camp with a great fire to cook those fresh fish on every night.
This is an awesome experience, and Swiss Nepal Family Trekking & Expedition is pleased to be able to offer this great fishing and jungle safari into the very heart of one of Nepal's finest jungle parks: Bardia National Park!

DAY 1 – Travel to Bardia National Park: We leave on a one hour flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj, the largest city in western Nepal. From here, your representative will transport you by private vehicle to your resort at Bardia National Park. Settle into your resort, and then enjoy a trip to the elephant breeding grounds to see baby elephants. Spend the evening at your resort with an orientation on your fishing/rafting trip.
DAY 2 – Drive to Chemise: We get up early and after a hearty breakfast, drive to our starting point on the Babai River. We will leave the jungle and take the East-West Highway until our road to the village. The Babai River valley contains no villages as it is national park, so we put in at the nearest village on the north side of the park boundary. We will raft down the river, enjoying the wildlife and the view. We will be fishing for our dinner tonight, which we will catch and cook over an open fire before retiring to our tent for the night.
DAY 3 – Rafting & Fishing: It just doesn't get any better than this! The river flows lazily through the deep canyon which surrounds you on both sides. The river is deep and filled with fish who are just not used to seeing anyone in there fishing. They'll snap at anything, providing you with a really great catch. We will easily get our fill of the freshest, tastiest fish right from cold mountain waters while enjoying the animals and watch the birds in the trees. We will stop for the night on the river in order to camp and cook our freshly caught fish for another wonderful camping feast.
DAY 4 – Rafting & Fishing: Ah, another lazy day floating down the river and catching fish and enjoying the pristine jungle wilderness. We might even see a rhino coming down to the water's edge to drink as well as other jungle animals. The river gets wider and deeper as we move southward. Tonight is our last night on the river as we camp and enjoy another fish dinner.
DAY 5 – Return to Resort: We return to day to our resort. We will break camp, do some more fishing and then raft to our pick-up spot where our private car awaits us. Tonight, we will enjoy a Tharu Cultural Program while enjoying our fresh fish prepared by quality chefs at the resort.
DAY 6 – Jungle Safari: Today we will have our choice of different jungle safaris. One is a walk into the jungle to look for tigers. Another option is to take an elephant safari where you will explore the jungle on the back of an elephant. Or you can take a jeep safari to take you deeper into the jungle. In the evening, relax at the resort with just the sounds of the jungle as you sleep soundly for the night.
DAY 7 – Return to Kathmandu: The journey today begins early with a three hour ride by private vehicle to Nepalgunj and then back to Kathmandu by a one hour flight.
